In addition to the Late Spring Floral Design workshop we'll be offering on May 28th, we are also offering a workshop in June focused on one of the concepts that is truly at the heart of our design philosophy: MOVEMENT. Please read on for more info and to register!

Movement Study

June 14th, 2022 from 4-7pm

You can register HERE

Movement is what makes an arrangement come to life. And yet- sometimes it is hard to get flower stems to stay where you want them. Sometimes you try to make something with sweeping lines and gestural tendrils, and end up with something that just looks messy. Sometimes you really want to show off a particularly beautiful, dainty little bloom, but it just gets lost in the fray and you can’t figure out how to bring it to the forefront. Sometimes it just doesn’t feel like the whole design really reads the way you want it to. If you have been struggling with any of these issues, or if you just want to learn how to create an arrangement filled with beautiful movement, this workshop is for you!

Over the course of this three-hour workshop, we will take a deep dive into the concepts of line, gesture, direction, layering, curve, flower groupings, color bridging, materials selection, and finding unique and unexpected movement inspired by the materials, setting, and vase you are designing in. We will delve into foam-free design mechanics including working with flower frogs and chicken wire. By the end of the workshop, participants will feel confident using both frogs and chicken wire, and understand when one or another of these mechanics may be more appropriate for a design. Each participant will make their own arrangement in a compote vase, and participants designs will be professionally photographed for portfolio, social media and/or personal use. Participants will have ample time to create their own arrangement applying the design principals discussed, and lots of personal attention and guidance from Kelly Sullivan, Botanique's owner and lead designer.

No previous experience is required to participate in this workshop, however we will be spending the majority of our time on more advanced design skills and concepts, and not going in-depth with the basics (for a more beginner level workshop please see our Late Spring Floral Design workshop on May 28th!).

Prior to becoming a floral designer, Kelly had a 10+ year career as a modern dancer and choreographer. She brings an embodied understanding of movement to her work, which informs every arrangement she creates. In this workshop, she will share her approach to designing with movement at the center of the process.

Registration will be capped at 12 participants, and early registration is advised. There will be both indoor and outdoor workspace to accommodate a range of comfort levels regarding Covid.

WORKSHOP INCLUDES: • All flowers and materials to make a gorgeous, seasonal floral arrangement for you to take home at the end of the workshop, including flowers, a flower frog and a beautiful compote vase • 3 hours of group and personal instruction from Botanique’s founder and creative director, Kelly Sullivan. • An opportunity to dive deep into the concept of movement, and explore your creativity and artistry in an inspiring and supportive environment. • Professional photography of your finished design to build your portfolio, share on social media, or just enjoy! • Light refreshments to keep our energy up • A chance to see and experience the Botanique Cutting Garden.
