A Late Summer, "From the Garden" Wedding on Lake Chelan
Just over a year ago, we designed the flowers for Kelly and Chris' small, family wedding in Lake Chelan. They had previously planned a large celebration, but Covid changed their plans a number of times (are we all getting used to this yet?), and ultimately they married with a handful of their closest family and friends in an intimate, backyard celebration. From the beginning of the planning process, Kelly and her mom were excited to work with local flowers- but initially, when the plans included a sizable guest list and big party, we were planning to source many of the blooms from the local farmers that we often work with. Once the wedding was scaled way back, we were actually able to design the flowers entirely out of our Cutting Garden, which always leads to such special pieces!
We created a palette of warm, pinky-peach and cream tones with cafe au lait dahlias, garden roses, foxglove, phlox, quickfire hydrangea, scabiosa blooms and pods, love in a puff vine... so many August beauties. I wasn't physically present to set this wedding up (amazing planner Megan from Clutch Events picked up all the bouquets, arrangements and boutonnieres on the morning of the wedding and drove them across the state!) so it is a treat to see how everything came together. It's also really interesting to see what was growing in the garden at this time last year- many of the same flowers, and also many different ones from what is currently blooming this year! Every year is different, and that is one of the most exciting things about tending a garden and working with flowers like this- things is always changing. And when we can be in relationship with the season as it is, there is always beauty to be found.
Happy Anniversary to Kelly and Chris!
