A Romantic, Foxglove-Inspired Wedding Editorial at Christianson's Nursery
People often ask: What is your favorite flower? There is truly no one answer to this question. Ask me at five different times throughout the year and you will receive five different answers! However, with that said, there are certain flowers that I have had a relationship with for a long time, that hold a very special resonance for me. Foxglove is one of these flowers.
They are tall spires that billow in the wind, and they self-sow all over the garden. Prior to growing flowers, I remember being awed by these beauties that frequently grow wild on the side of highways. There are an incredibly tough flower in the sense that they seem to grow like "weeds," adaptable to both sun and shadier conditions, and often found in rougher areas. And yet they carry such elegance and beauty. They are also quite powerful- they are known to be extremely toxic if ingested, even causing death (READ: NO NOT EAT!). However they also contain a compound that has been used in heart medicine- so they carry some extremely potent medicine.
One of my favorite varieties of foxglove is called "Polkadot Polly." Here's a photo of them growing in the Cutting Garden:

They are a gorgeous rusty peach tone- really rich, romantic and warm.
When my photographer friend Kerry asked me if I would design some pieces for a wedding editorial she was putting together at Christianson's Nursery that was happening in prime foxglove season, and I immediately got excited to feature these foxglove. I was particularly excited to design an over-the-arm or "cradle" bouquet featuring foxglove, and this bouquet features just three ingredients: foxglove, cistus and agrostemma. Additional flowers in this editorial in the centerpieces included roses, Argentinian forget-me-nots, and various foliages from the garden. Everything here came straight from the Cutting Garden in June! I hope you enjoy this foxglove wedding inspiration!
