1:1 Private Floral Design Workshop at Botanique: Minimalism vs. Maximalism

1:1 lessons are wonderful for people who are wanting custom-tailored instruction. Depending on the person attending the workshop, I have taught private lessons ranging in content from specific pieces that a person wishes to learn how to make or refine their skills at making (bouquets, boutonnieres, arches, centerpiece, etc) to an overview of the basics of floral design, flower processing, flower harvesting, etc, to anything having to do with growing (seed starting, garden planning, etc), to questions about the business aspects of floral design. Some of these topics are covered in group workshops as well, but for some people it makes more sense to take a deep dive through a private lesson, where you can really get all your questions answered/we can focus on exactly what you are wanting and needing to learn.

For the 1:1 workshop shown in this post, the focus was Minimalism vs. Maximalism in design, with a bonus boutonniere tutorial. Deborah wanted to study how to create unique floral centerpieces in both minimal and lush styles, so we created three different tablescapes, each with a different focus and design, and talked through pricing for each, as well as how to scale up or down various designs depending on the client's budget and the overall aesthetic of the event.

The first tablescape (the most minimal) featured only dogwood branches. To this day, it is one of my favorite designs! The simplicity of the materials lets the shape and movement and specialness of the dogwood come front and center.

The second design featured monobotanical designs of Iceland poppies, more lush in feel than the first tablescape, but not quite as full as the final design.

The third design was made with lush and full compote arrangements.

We then mixed and matched various arrangements together, as part of the conversation on pricing and how you could scale these ideas up or down.

In 1:1 lessons, I am an open book- you can ask ALL your questions, and we can take as much time as you want/need to go into as much detail as you want/need so that you really learn what you are wanting and needing to learn! I am opening up a few spaces for 1:1 lessons in January and February 2023, and if you are interested in more info, please email me at kelly@botaniqueflowers and we can talk through the details!
